Drones over Gaza, 4 min, 2015 is a sound work based on field recordings of Israeli military drones operating in the airspace over occupied Palestine. The work interprets the sonic environments of war and colonial violence through the widespread use of unmanned aerial vehicles in rapidly increasing number of countries. During the genocidal attack in Gaza in the summer of 2014, I recorded the noise of Israel’s military drones hovering over Gaza through a live stream with the assistance of Palestinian activists living in the Strip. The work intends to crop and document moments of the daily life in a space struggling under siege and colonial violence as well as to counter the abstract and distant examination of Drones effect on a civilian population.
